The Physical Education and Arts School of Chengyi College, Jimei University was founded in September 2005. It has seven majors, namely Visual Communication Design, Environmental Design, Digital Media Technology, Social Sports Guidance and Management, Dance, Musicology and Preschool Education, and has 1,804 undergraduates in total. The School has 47 staff, including 36 full-time teachers, six of which are professors, 12 associate professors, three doctors, 30 masters and 20 teachers with dual qualifications and dual abilities.
The School takes the construction of “First-class Chengyi” as the core, as the level of its teaching and scientific research is steadily improving. In the past five years, it has undertaken 23 governmental scientific research projects, including one of National Social Science Fund, two of State General Administration of Sport , three of provincial Social Science Fund and 12 for young and middle-aged teachers of the provincial Education Department. The School has published six monographs and more than 50 high-level academic papers. In 2013, the college was approved as the “Sports Culture Research Base” by the Sports Culture Center of the State General Administration of Sport . In 2016, it won the provincial pilot construction project of “Cultural Industry Specialty Group” as the characteristics and advantages of each specialty were fully integrated. In 2017, Professor Lan Runsheng was awarded “2015-2017 Outstanding Teachers of Fujian Province” for his remarkable work in teaching, scientific research and management. In 2017, the “China Sports Yearbook” publicized in its special article the exceptional achievements of College sports work . Social Sports, Preschool Education and other majors have been incorporated into the College’s “Master Degree” cultivation program. In 2020, “The Construction of Excellent Chinese Traditional Sports Cultural Inheritance Base and Talent Cultivation” presided by Professor Lan Runsheng won the second prize of provincial Teaching Achievement Award of Higher Education. In 2020, the major of Visual Communication Design was selected as the provincial first-class undergraduate major construction site.
Over the years, the Physical Education and Arts School has earnestly implemented General Secretary Xi Jinping’s important instruction on education, focusing on cultivating application-oriented talents with solid foundation, extensive knowledge, special skills, innovative spirit, practical ability and social responsibility. The students have won many awards of different levels and types in the “Internet+” Innovation and Entrepreneurship Competition, Challenge Cup, College students’ Art Performance, Art Design Competition, teachers’ skills competition, sports competition and other college students’ competitions. In the past 14 years, a total of 3,096 graduates have been cultivated, and the one-time employment rate has always been above 90%. With high professional quality and strong professional ability, the graduates have earned a good social reputation.
