The Humanities School of Chengyi University College, Jimei University was founded in 2005, and currently has a total of more than 2,000 students. It has three undergraduate majors, namely Chinese Language and Literature, English and Law.
The major of Chinese Language and Literature is divided into two concentrations of teacher education and cultural creativity, and the major of English is divided into two concentrations of teacher education and business English. The Major of Chinese Language and Literature was selected as the first batch of first-class major construction site, and the major of Law was selected as the second batch of first-class major cultivation site.
Under the background of “new liberal arts”, the Humanities School fully implements the fundamental task of establishing morality and cultivating talents. Based in Xiamen, facing Fujian, oriented to serving the local economy, it aims to cultivate compound, application-oriented and innovative professionals, forming the talent cultivation characteristics of “solid foundation, strong practice ability and emphasis on innovation”.
The Humanities School has a strong faculty with the young and middle-aged teachers as the backbone, and supplemented by experts from industries and enterprises. Among them, 31.4% have doctor’s degree, 25.5% have overseas study experience and 42% have senior professional title. Famous scholars, professors or professionals from well-known enterprises and public institutions are invited to teach courses, give lectures or guide students’ studies. The faculty has made remarkable achievements in teaching and research. Many high-level papers have been published, and 49 research projects at all levels have been approved. It has won the second prize of Fujian Provincial Social Science Outstanding Achievement Award.
With the purpose of “advocating humanistic care and leading campus culture”, in combination with the characteristics of various majors, the Humanities School organizes various competitions such as teacher skills contest, recitation contest, moot court, legal knowledge contest, English drama ceremony, and English speech contest to promote academic and cultural activities on campus.
Students have achieved good results in various innovation and entrepreneurship competitions, National English Reading Competition, Cross-strait College Students Debating Competition, Cross-strait Forum Youth Knowledge Competition on the Origin of Chinese Surnames and other activities.
The Humanities School integrates internal and external practice resources to carry out the concept of innovation and entrepreneurship education in the whole process of talent cultivation. To improve students’ professional skills, it encourages students to practice through practice teaching, innovation and entrepreneurship competitions, and professional knowledge competitions etc. The School has successively established in-depth industry-study-research cooperative relationships with primary and secondary schools in Jimei District, the Justice Bureau of Jimei District in Xiamen and other schools, government sectors, enterprises and public institutions, and industry associations etc., to build a good platform for students’ internship and employment.
In recent years, the graduates’ employment quality of the Humanities School is high, and the admission rate of graduate students and civil servants, the passing rate of judicial examination and teacher qualification certificate, and the teacher recruitment rate etc. are relatively ideal. The graduates are widely distributed in diplomacy, foreign affairs, foreign trade, education, legal affairs and other fields, and many have become the backbone talents in all walks of life.
