Founded in 2003, the Merchant Marine School currently has five undergraduate majors, namely Transportation, Logistics Management, Supply Chain Management, Navigation Technology and Law (concentration in maritime law), and two upgraded majors, namely Transportation and Logistics Management, among which Transportation and Logistics Management have been listed as first-class majors under the key construction of the College; Supply Chain Management serves as a new liberal arts major. Presently, the School has 1,052 students, and has cultivated more than 6,200 graduates. Some of the graduates have become professional backbone in shipping enterprises, logistics enterprises, maritime safety administrations and pilot stations, making much contribution to promoting international trade, social and economic development.
Relying on the faculty and experimental facilities of Jimei University, the Merchant Marine School is committed to promoting the construction of application-oriented disciplines, and has invested more than 15 million RMB to build a navigation simulation center at the provincial level to continuously improve the teaching conditions. The School emphasizes on the construction of its own faculty according to the characteristics of each major, adheres to the cultivation of application-oriented talents in international shipping and supply chain management with solid foundation, special skills, innovative spirit and social responsibility. The School has revised the teaching plan and improved teaching methods, optimizing the cultivation plan and the teaching quality according to the market demand and the development of science and technology.
The School has a dynamic teaching and management team with twenty-two faculty members, including thirteen full-time teachers with master degree, four associate professors, five lecturers and four teaching assistants. Since the establishment of its own faculty, it has always attached importance to the cultivation of teachers, encouraging them to carry out scientific research and improve their own quality. Focusing on quality control, the School conducts comprehensive monitoring of the teaching process, strengthens daily teaching management. For the cultivation of students’ practical ability and innovation awareness, it employs guest professors and corporate executives to give lectures, establishes school-enterprise cooperation with COSCO Shipping, Jingdong Logistics and other large enterprises, attaches importance to the construction of off-campus practice and training, encourages and guides students to participate in discipline competitions, and exerts the role of professional student associations to improve students’ quality.
