The Merchant Marine School currently has 1,727 full-time students and 128 full-time faculty members, including 11 professors and 53 associate professors. The school offers five majors – Navigation Technology, Marine Engineering, Logistics Management, Law (concentration in maritime law) and Transportation (concentration in international shipping management).
Navigation Technology Major aims to cultivate professional seafarers who meet the international and national standards and requirements, capable of doing navigation and operating management jobs in maritime and related fields. This major emphasizes oral English communication abilities and actual navigation operating abilities. Graduates are deeply welcomed by national and international shipping companies, resulting in high employment rate and high income.
Marine Engineering Major aims to cultivate engineering professionals who meet both the domestic and international seafarer’s standards and competence for modern ship mechanical and electrical operational management with adequate knowledge and well-trained skill of a marine engineering graduate. This comprehensive high-technology course consists of modern marine engineering, electrical, heating, automation, and management, and emphasizes oral English communication abilities and actual navigation operating abilities. Graduates are deeply welcomed by national and international shipping companies, resulting in high employment rate and high income.
Logistics Management Major aims to cultivate professionals with a good command of English proficiency and modern management technology and methods in dealing with logistics management, and solid basic knowledge in operations research, management, economics, logistics and international transportation regulations. This major emphasizes the building of comprehensive abilities, for instance, self-management and self-development, communication, resolution of actual problems, innovation, research, reports writing, public speaking, computer application abilities, etc.
Law Major (concentration in maritime law) aims to cultivate maritime legal professionals with solid foundation, a wide range of knowledge including that of basic English, basic law and shipping operations, expertise knowledge in maritime law, strong practical abilities, comprehensive qualities and innovative spirit, who are able to work in all kinds of maritime related legal departments, as well as educational institutions where they teach and carry out research in maritime law.
Transportation Major (concentration in international shipping management) aims to cultivate professionals with a good command of modern management, English proficiency, solid knowledge in international shipping, international economy and trade and international shipping laws, who are able to handle with international shipping management. Graduates are deeply welcomed by national and international shipping companies, resulting in high employment rate.
